The “experts “ write about Extraterrestrials.

Exopoliticians, fantasists, and conspiracy theorists not only disagree with their colleagues, but frequently contradict themselves. What they write about the extraterrestrials can change several times, and this is inevitable since the ETs are hypothetical.

Exopolitician Dr. Michael Salla’s opinion:
“I believe that the majority of evidence points to a major policy schism between two dominant factions of those secretly managing the extraterrestrial presence. There is a hardline faction that is deeply nationalistic and believes in a strong military response to the ET presence. This faction has very little trust in those ETs who are playing a major role in interacting with government agencies in terms of secret agreements, deep black projects, and who interact with the US population. That in particular means ET races from Zeta Reticulum, the Grays, who dominate abduction accounts and whistleblower testimonies concerning ETs. This hardline faction is well represented in the approach of the Bush administration which is dominated by neo-conservatives and of course believes in a strong military response to threats to the US and is intensely nationalistic. A public disclosure of the ET presence by such a faction would tend to be one depicting the ETs, Grays, as hostile and untrustworthy. It would be most likely formulated in terms of a national security crisis. “

“Furthermore, it appears as though extraterrestrials living among the human population may work in pairs, a kind of buddy system that would make sense in terms of ensuring safety and communications with the home world if an emergency ever occurred.
If Adamski is accurate in his recollections and the extraterrestrials are telling the truth, then it would appear that there could be a significant number of extraterrestrials who are living incognito among the normal population in many if not most major cities on the planet. Upon examining other contactee cases and the testimonies of whistleblowers, it does appear as though this is indeed the case.
Adamski was not the only one of the contactees claiming that extraterrestrials were blending in with the human population.
Howard Menger also claimed to have been contacted by extraterrestrials posing as ordinary human citizens while he was training to be a spokesperson for the space brothers. In one case, the extraterrestrial was posing as a real estate salesperson and asked Menger to accompany him in one of the extraterrestrial’s car where he was taken to a new contact location to meet at appointed times with the space brothers’ ships.”

Exopolitician Alfred Webre’s ideas

The Typology of Extraterrestrial Civilizations

“Empirical evidence confirms the existence of the following typologies of extraterrestrial civilizations and extraterrestrial governance bodies:
Solar system civilizations: Planetary civilizations in our own solar system, such as the intelligent human civilization living under the surface of Mars that reportedly enjoys a strategic relationship with the United States government.

Deep space civilizations: Intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations that are based on a planet, solar system, or space station in our galaxy or in some other location in this known physical universe. An example includes the 10 - 100 intelligent extraterrestrial civilizations that, according to a NATO report, have been visiting Earth for many centuries.

Hyper-dimensional civilizations: Intelligent civilizations that are based in dimensions or universes parallel to our own and that may use technologically advanced physical form and/or transport when entering our known universe.

Extraterrestrial governance authorities: Legally constituted extraterrestrial governing authorities with jurisdiction over a defined territory, such as the Milky Way Galactic Federation, which has been empirically located in replicable research.”

Human souls common to extraterrestrials and earthlings

This reporter and Exopolitics researcher Alfred Lambremont Webre has developed a similar hypothesis to researchers Suzanne Hansen and Mary Rodwell that integrates extraterrestrials and the human soul and is based on empirical data.

The hypothesis corroborates and validates Ms. Hansen's and Ms. Rodwell's data and findings, and the plausibility and veracity of the case study reported in this article.

Based on extensive research findings in exopolitics, parapsychology, reincarnation studies, and hypnotic regression, this hypothesis postulates that an ecology of spiritual dimensions mirrors the parallel dimensions which science is now researching, and that include our known physical universe.

Empirical research on the inter-life demonstrates that a civilization of intelligent, evolving souls is apparently created in the spiritual dimensions. These souls in turn evolve and incarnate into various human or other forms on diverse planets in the known physical universe and other planets, for purposes of gaining moral lessons.

This hypothesis is supported by replicated data from hypnotic regression of multiple subjects’ inter-life memories.

Alfred Webre accusations tell us something about Stephen Greer, something about Webre and more important, a lot about these “UFO experts”

Richard Dolan is a relatively young star in the rarified UFO environment.
About one of his books we read the following critic:

“I saw two of his books (National Security State series) listed as recommended reading recently in a thread here, and I thought, before reading his book, that he was a reasonable and well-regarded researcher in the UFO field. I have read through some of his book, and it's fraught with delusional conspiracies about Freemasons and Trilateralists. He also cites dubious sources like Jim Marrs (who himself doesn't source any of his claims. I've read one of his books--absolute crock).
Am I right to think that Dolan is unreliable? I can't see how someone can plan out a historical overview of the phenomenon if a lot of what he supplies are unverifiable anecdotes and questionable inclusions of transnational banking conspiracies.”

Richard Dolan’s papers are not Ufological  contributions. On the contrary , these are contradictory and ambiguous. Read what follows and see that Dolan in fact considers the ETs a possibility, not a fact:

“Richard Dolan, May 3, 2013

“I’ve often felt that disclosure on the matter of UFOs and possible ETs is a paradox. It is impossible, but it is inevitable.
Impossible because there is no political motivation for it. Period.
Inevitable, however, because our leaders are not the only factor in the equation. There are the other beings, after all. But mainly, there’s us. The People. Who are going through the greatest social, cultural, and especially technological transformation in the history of humanity. In fact, we are the game changers.
Someday, and it won’t be too long in the future, something is going to force someone’s hand. It could be a major sighting, a major leak, something. Something that can no longer be denied. After all, we are fast approaching what experts in artificial intelligence call the Singularity, when computing intelligence exceeds our own. In such a future, can we really think we will still be stuck in neutral on this issue?
Something will force the President’s hand. He or she will finally hold that long awaited press conference and make that bombshell understatement:
“I have been advised by the national Security Council, and heads of our intelligence community that there is a reality to some of the UFO phenomenon, in that some UFOs are real physical craft not manufactured by any known civilization on earth.”
Or, words to that effect. It’s the kind of statement that many proponents of UFO disclosure would like to hear, but the real question is, what next? Because there will be quite a few follow-up questions.

At the top of the list will be questions about who these other beings are and what their agenda might be. This will be a very difficult question for any President to answer. In the first place, there is a likelihood that even the leaders of the black budget/breakaway society that have been on top of this for years, they may not even know. Or at least not fully. And what if they do know? And, moreover, what if at least some of that answer includes information that might be deeply upsetting?”

We can also read an excellent critic of Richard Dolan’s book UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Cover-up 1941-1973.
Follow link below.

There is also a critical paper called Richard Dolan’s Tinfoil Hat; a General Systems Theory of Conspiracy a paper written by Michael R. Schuyler on January 2010.

“The heart of Dolan’s thesis, and what could be called his contribution to the field, is that
the UFO situation, including potentially recovered vehicles, communications, and encounters, sightings, and abductions, has spawned a ‘National Security State’ which
pervades our daily life which is rife with cover-ups, violations of civil liberties, betrayal
of the citizenry, misuse of public funds, and an overwhelming veil of secrecy to keep
what is really going on from general knowledge.

Dolan has never met a conspiracy theory he didn’t like. To Dolan, there is a conspiracy behind every blade of grass. The CIA is everywhere and many people are agents or tools of agents.
These include John Lear, J. Allen Hynek, Gene Pope (the founder of the National Enquirer tabloid),
Phillip Klass, Bill Moore, Charles Berlitz, and a host of others all with “ties to the CIA,” and
who, one way or another, are actively working to discredit Ufology, spread
disinformation, disarm or destroy pressure groups, stifle dissent, and bring on a
dictatorship, or support the one already installed, even though we don’t all know it.

All the three-letter agencies are involved: The NSA, The DIA, the NIS, indeed, all the
covert agencies. They use drugs, secret mind control techniques, Mafia connections, drug
smuggling, arms smuggling, and similar tactics to benefit the rich and powerful including
David Rockefeller, the Rothschild bankers of Europe, and other vested private interests.
They do this by using international groups such as the Bilderberger Group, The Trilateral
Commission, and the Council on Foreign Relations to weaken national sovereignty in
favor of a New World Order. In other words, the usual suspects are up to their usual
conspiracies, but this time with a UFO twist that might have started it all.”

LITERARY CRITICISM- Richard M. Dolan. UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Cover-up 1941-1973

“The most disturbing aspect of the book is the impression given by the author that he regards one source as being as good as another. In support of his thesis that the US government is concealing the truth about incursions by aliens from space, he quotes from writers ranging from the reliable and scrupulously honest to the hucksters and pathological liars, and the majority to be found between these two extremes."
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….
”It has long been a tradition among writers of sensationalist UFO literature to attribute the deaths of ufologists or persons connected, or imagined to be connected, with official UFO investigations to the activities of government agencies, or even to the UFOs themselves. Incredibly, Dolan plays this game in a book which purports to be the first part of a serious history of the topic."

UFO Industry: Selling your soul to the market

I think money is one of the big problems, you know? Of course money is not bad in itself, but as the old song says, Money makes the world go round. This is not good. Ufology is also an industry and it’s the
market that makes the rules.
Imagine an individual who becomes interested in the UFO phenomenon. He or she reads a lot, and perhaps decides to write a book about UFOs.
The publisher produces books to make money, and there are some ideas that sell more than others.
(Forget about truth, we are talking of making a living through the UFO industry.)
A book of course is like a space that must be filled with words. Graphics will help, and perhaps will give the book some scientific look, but it’s not enough. You must write things about UFO, and if you did a good reading with intelligence and honesty, will find only people, humans like you writing about extraterrestrials, aliens, conspiracies, cabals, shadow governments, the Illuminati, etc.
You will also find unreliable or anonymous sources, self-proclaimed contactees, pseudo-science, a touch of religion and New Age.
What you will not find are clear, reliable evidences that the extraterrestrials exist at all.
Here the future “expert” must cross the Rubicon, and decide if she/he will go on with the idea of writing and selling books. If the decision is positive, you are now into the UFO-ET industry with its own rules.
You sold your soul to the market and consequently must write what sells, not what is true.
Just find something new, if your imagination is active and repeat what others wrote before.
Try your hand with extraterrestrials, aliens, conspiracies, cabals, shadow governments, the Illuminati, anonymous sources, self-proclaimed contactees, pseudo-science, a touch of religion and New Age and why not some abductions narrative.
If you are honest at least with yourself, you will recognize that your texts are fiction, not fact.

Of course, given that you are under the marketing rules, your hypothetical readers must not know that they are reading imaginary tales and invented stories.

Friends,

Dec. 31, 2010, 11:59 pm, EST, [05:00 hrs., Jan. 1, 2011, Greenwich Mean Time/UTC/Zulu], is the official Deadline for the U.S. Government to make a formal Official Public Acknowledgment that Star Visitor Contact and Communication has occurred.
Preparation for this public information announcement was the subject of an official Executive Order (classified) signed by President Barack Obama, directing the National Security Council's Special Studies Group to prepare a plan for such a series of Official Government Public Acknowledgments of Star Visitor Contacts and Communications with U.S. Government representatives.
The U.S. Government is preparing to do this pursuant to a formal Agreement made with Star Nations: that the U.S. would stop its policy of UFO Cover-Up this year.
Of course such a public announcement could occur any time prior to December 31st too.
Star Nations, through its representative the Councillor of Earth (Dr. Richard Boylan), have advised the Government that if they renage on complying with that Agreement, that Star Nations will initiate a series of open, public, dramatically-obvious demonstrations-of-presence such that the Government will then be compelled to publicly acknowledge Star Visitors reality.

    in service to Source,

Richard Boylan, Ph.D., Councillor of/for Earth

Charlatans, hoaxers and snake oil sellers.

Do you understand what the so called interdimensional star beings are? If you don’t you should not worry about your ignorance. Nobody does, not even the inventors of this new nonsense.
In supernaturalism rhetoric, words and phrases try to give the impression that something meaningful has been said, when in fact only a vague or ambiguous claim or even a refutation has been communicated.

Charlatans try to make you believe that they know something you don’t know, and that is why they speak about cosmic alchemy, multiverses, interdimensional star beings and similar things without any real signification or value.

The late Richard Dawkins wrote:
“If you are in possession of this revolutionary secret of science, why not prove it and be hailed as the new Newton? Of course, we know the answer. You can't do it. You are a fake.”
In fact, all these are forms of deceit, as the use of weasel words
I recommend the excellent article about deceit in RationalWiki. You will find the “enlightening wisdom” of deceivers at work.

Some individuals present themselves as experts in alternative knowledge. There is no such thing and truth is that alternative knowledge is just ignorance and worst, deception.
Empty words, weasel words and false information are also related to fallacious arguments from authority. It’s it is an appeal to inappropriate authority, which occurs when an inference relies upon a person or a group without relevant expertise or knowledge of the subject matter under discussion.
Being a lawyer or a Doctor in sociology doesn't give you any kind of special knowledge on Physics or Astronomy.

Fantasists just love the cover-up.

A Paradox
The UFO=ET mythology can only be sustained and kept alive through conspiracy theories, but many of the self proclaimed “experts” are trapped in an in circulum probando logical fallacy.
This fallacy also known as Circular Argument happens when an argument takes its proof from a factor within the argument itself, rather than from an external one.

Consider the hypothetical cover-up. Presumably the presence of extraterrestrial civilizations in our planet is a fact, but governments and the whole scientific establishment conspire to deny such presence to the public.
The mythologist will not give evidences of such a giant conspiracy, simply because the cover-up includes the elimination of such evidences.
That is why the exo-mythologist loves the cover up fantasy, for the reason that such conspiracy gives him the possibility of unlimited nonsense.

Besides, for the conspiracy theorists, anyone denying the existence of a conspiracy becomes a coconspirator, and her/his doubts are simply a trick of the cover up apparatus.

This is also a circular argument fallacy. For the ET mythologists, there are no individuals who have different ideas. The critics are always psyops, illuminati or employees of the “shadow government.” For the snake oil sellers, those who make questions about the cover up just belong to the cover-up, and with this the argument is closed.

How Mythological Ufology becomes Religion.

Some people believe in gods, angels, demons and similar invisible, inaudible entities. Since there is no evidence that probes the existence of the mentioned beings, those believers have faith, and faith has nothing to do with science. More, it is god him/herself who gives us the Grace to believe, so faith in god depends on the will of the divinity.
Faith is confidence or trust in a person, thing, deity, or in the doctrines or teachings of a religion or view. It can also be belief that is not based on proof.

Now, if this is so, the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations visiting our planet is based on faith, because these hypothetic extraterrestrials are also invisible, inaudible and undetectable.
Considering the similarities between religion and the belief on extraterrestrials, sooner or later those who elaborate on the UFO=ET mythology, inevitably pseudo-ufology becomes a religion.

The case of James Gilliland illustrates this transformation. The Chronicle gives us the following information: Group Seeks Contact With Extraterrestrials at Mount Adams‘Enlightened Contact’
TROUT LAKE — Seeing a spaceship can be part of a spiritual journey toward enlightenment, according to reports from a group of area travelers, who took a trip to a UFO ranch near the base of Mount Adams last weekend.
James Gilliland claims to have enlightened contact with extraterrestrial intelligence and beings from higher dimensions at his ranch near Trout Lake, which purportedly is an internationally known UFO and paranormal hot spot.

In his ranch Mr. Gilliland organized a group called Enlightened Contact with Extraterrestrial Intelligence.
Making contact with the greater family of man, our star family is available to us all should we choose to rise to the occasion. Please join us in helping to raise the Earth’s vibration and assist in the evolution of our planet for the challenging times ahead. –write Gilliland.
But this contact with “benevolent beings and spiritual guides” is private and depends of some kind of state of awareness and readiness for the experience of enlightening. James Guilliland presents himself to his followers as “ an internationally known speaker, author, and contactee. He is the founder of the Self Mastery Earth Institute, Science, Spirit and World Transformation Conferences as well as the ECETI Ranch an internationally known UFO and Paranormal hotspot. He is the author of Reunion With Source, Becoming Gods and his latest best seller The Ultimate Soul Journey.
We have a guru here, and the so called brothers of the stars are blended with the Source (god.)
The presumed contact with the Extraterrestrial Intelligences becomes a religious experience, and it’s implied by the group rhetoric that the contact is reserved to those who are ready for the event.
In the website of Gilliland organization we learn that “ One of the most powerful therapies on the planet is the Spiritual Transpersonal Release Technique. This was once known as Reto Clearing endearingly referred to as a spiritual roto rooter. It is a technique that transfers powerful consciousness and energy to the recipient allowing them to heal,"Quickly and Gracefully:, any mental or emotional wounds, traumas or wrong conclusions from past experiences. This includes past lives and any unseen negative influences as well. Many of our fears and phobias often do not have any base of origin in this life. This is when past lives have to be taken into account. Where does a child prodigy obtain the ability to play beautiful music, access knowledge beyond their present understanding? Where does the inspiration come from in all great works or art or science? We are more than the sum total of this lifes experience. Our mental and emotional bodies are affected by unseen spiritual forces in positive and negative ways. It is time to open to the positive and heal the negative. Please see below for energetic video footage of a Spiritual Transpersonal Release Session taking place.”
Forget about science, evidences, technology and detection. Forget about serious scientific research. Just…have Faith.

What's behind the cover-up mythology.

The theory of the Cover Up is based on the following elements:
A) Authorities, Intelligence Services, members of the Army and the scientific establishment have concrete evidences about the existence of Extraterrestrial Civilizations and presumably are in contact with some of these ET civilizations. This fact is kept in secrecy.
To maintain the cover-up, those who know the truth conspire to deny (A)
Because of the nature of this secret, the truth about Extraterrestrial presence is shared by a great number of individuals.
How many?
Let us suppose that in the whole planet, only 500 individuals know that ETs exist and have evidences about their existence.
Since this is a shared secret, if only one individual reveals the truth and shows concrete evidences, the whole cover-up collapses.
Obviously, there are 500 (or more) possibilities of disclosure, because if only one conspirator reveals the truth showing concrete evidences, the other 499 individuals cannot save the secret.
The Cover up requires the silence of 500 individuals. (All of them)
The Disclosure requires only one whistle blower (with concrete evidences.)
It is practically impossible to keep such a secret shared by so many people from different social, political and scientific professions, so, it’s logical to assume that such secret doesn't exist.
UFO=ET fantasists need the cover-up fantasy, simply because conspiracies justify the total lack of reliable evidences.
If UFO fans believe in the cover-up, they will believe in the pseudo-scientific rhetoric. The impostor knows that if someone believes in the possibility of a massive cover-up conspiracy of the governments, and the whole world scientific establishment, this believer will accept any fantasy and…he/she will buy books , magazines, lectures, etc.  He is a client.

The insistence in the already discredited idea of the cover-up, is just marketing. The “experts” in extraterrestrial civilizations know this perfectly well but…the show must go on.

Conspiracy Theories and Plausibility

Plausibility is a very interesting word. Imagine that someone tells you that a group of individuals are planning a bank robbery. Since you find this plausible, probably you will advice your friend to go to the police as soon as possible. The imaginary episode tells us a very important thing about conspiracies. Usually the plausibility of a conspiracy grows when a small group of people is involved. Watergate is one of those real conspiracies. We find that a relatively small group of individuals is involved and also we learn that there was someone who revealed this conspiracy to the press. Warranted conspiracy theories tend to be small in scope requiring only a small group and are relatively easy to cover up. However, bigger conspiracies have smaller plausibility, because the cover up is more difficult if not impossible. So, if you read that there is a conspiracy to make you believe that in Mars there is no intelligent life, trees, big animals and terrestrial bases, you will see the obvious: the whole world scientific establishment must conspire to keep the “real” Mars situation secret. Thousands of astronomers, scientists, technicians, authorities and employees are forced to lie to the public and even to their families and friends. This is of course impossible and the plausibility of such a giant conspiracy is cero. The more people who are or must be in the know, the less likely it is that the conspiracy will remain secret, and the more certain it becomes that the absence of any leak is indicative that the conspiracy does not exist. Of course the same thing can be said about the presumed cover up of contacts between authorities and extraterrestrials. Paradoxically, conspiracy theorists are forced to make their imaginary conspiracies bigger and bigger. RationalWiki suggests the following questions to detect the plausibility of any conspiracy theory. 1 - How many people are part of this conspiracy? Are there enough of them to carry out the plan? What infrastructure and resources does it need? How much time and money did it take and where did this money come from? (For instance, the idea that the Nazi themselves set the Reichstag fire would only require handful of men and minimal amount of money to pull off while something like the moon landing hoax would require tens of thousands if not more to carry out; the rock samples alone might require a decade to falsify and filming would take an airtight soundstage orders of magnitude larger than any known vacuum chamber). 2 - Explicitly who gains what from the conspiracy and for what price? Is this the easiest way of gaining it? If not, why was it chosen over the easiest way? If it is an old conspiracy — who gains what from maintaining it? 3- How large is the supposed conspiracy and how likely is it to be covered up if has gone on a long time? If there are thousands of conspirators, and the conspiracy has gone on for decades, why have none been defected? Why have none of them leaked the story? If many conspirators are dead, why have none of them told the truth on their deathbeds, or in their wills? (It should be noted that with government-based conspiracy theories one can have issues with the fact there are things about WWI, nearly 100 years ago, that are still classified and therefore unknown to the general public, nullifying these types of questions even with a skeptic - however, these involve what might be termed "rigidly defined areas of doubt and uncertainty" and usually there is significant supporting evidence from other sources). 4 - If there are many thousands of conspirators, how are they organized? Where are the secret conferences held? How do they keep track of membership? If they are organized through known channels or entities, how do they keep non-members who work there from uncovering the conspiracy? 5 -There are many intelligence agencies associated with rival nations, with the ability to expose secrets. If, say, the US government is running a global conspiracy, why have the French, Russian, or Chinese intelligence agencies never revealed it, to cause a major scandal in the United States (If all intelligence agencies are involved, see #2)? If they have, when and where did they do so? 6- Does belief in this theory require accepting that the conspiring entities are incredibly competent, bone stupid, organized and clever, and hopelessly incompetent -- all at the same time?[31] 7 -More generally, what if any implausible contradictions does this theory depend upon? A secret well and carefully kept by extremely powerful and aggressive entities, that one or (especially) more "bozos on the bus" happens to know all about, and talk about openly, including on the Web, without being disappeared?http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Conspiracy_theory#Questions_to_ask_about_a_conspiracy_theory

HOW TO WRITE A BOOK ABOUT UFOs

First of all, remember that in contemporary Ufology there is nothing new, and if you try to convince your hypothetic readers that you have some special knowledge, just use the imagination.

Some decades ago, there was ufological research on the field, but today, as Dr. Michael Salla recognized, everything can be found in the internet.

The term "UFO" (or "UFOB") was officially created in 1953 by the of U.S. Air Force (USAF) to replace the words "discs", "saucers" and even “flying cigars”.
You should be careful with this, because sooner or later you will need to write about conspiracy theory, and remember: always the imaginary cover-up is responsible for the total absence of evidences.

Honestly I don’t know if this will work, but please..! Do not think in old-fashioned and outdated elements like the “men in black”. After a few comedies, men in black are finished in Ufology.
Also, you should be very careful with the ET abductions, because soon abductions will be totally obsolete. Just touch Betty and Barney Hill “experience” if necessary.

However, forget everything about George Adamski, the contactee who, decades ago, made various claims about his meetings with telepathic aliens from nearby planets. It’s not necessary to write about handsome aliens from Venus, even if you use several times the name of Tesla and the word “quantum”. Nobody will believe you.

Also, put out of your mind the “anonymous sources”. This doesn’t work anymore and your reader probably will want his/her money back.
By the way, be extremely careful with the Roswell UFO crash. Hundreds of books and magazines and videos talk about the Roswell incident…enough is enough! Your book will look pathetic.
So, what remains is just imagination. Yes, I know that imagination and some nice graphics are not enough for a best-seller.

Truth is that I don’t want to waste your time or mine. How about writing something else?
Think about spiritual advice, cosmic alchemy, tarot or a dreaming guide, and forget about UFOs.

You cannot sell the same fantasies again and again.

Ufology and Science.-Nick Pope

Introduction
What is the relationship between ufology and science? “You get an ology, you’re a scientist”. So said the character “Beattie” in the famous 1980s British Telecom TV advertisement. That said, the scientific community clearly doesn’t recognize ufology as a legitimate part of science, standing in its own right alongside subjects such as biology or psychology. Some ufologists are scientists and some scientists are favorably disposed towards ufology, but generally speaking the scientific community regards ufology as a hobby, if indeed it pays the subject any attention at all. Does any of this matter and what, if anything, can be done to change this state of affairs? History At official level, science and ufology have cohabited, though they have been uneasy bedfellows. We should not forget that in America, long before his involvement with the Center for UFO Studies, the astrophysicist Dr J. Allen Hynek was appointed as scientific consultant to the USAF’s UFO projects, Sign, Grudge and Blue Book. The MOD’s UFO project owes its very existence to a scientist. Papers declassified by the Ministry of Defence in 2001 and released under the Freedom of Information Act show that the Flying Saucer Working Party - the UK’s first official study into the UFO phenomenon - was set up as a direct consequence of the MOD’s Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Henry Tizard. In response to a wave of UFO sightings in the UK and indeed all around the world, Tizard’s view was that “reports of flying saucers ought not to be dismissed without some investigation”. Earlier still, in the Second World War and immediately thereafter, another famous scientist - the MOD’s Director of Scientific Intelligence, Professor R. V. Jones - had probed mysterious reports of so-called “Foo Fighters” and “Ghost Rockets”. The forms which Project Blue Book and the MOD’s equivalent used to record UFO sightings were designed with input from scientists, so as to facilitate the recording of the information required for meaningful investigations to be undertaken. Science versus Government The position of scientists within government has always been odd. The civil service, the military and the intelligence agencies all know they need scientists, but somehow they are a breed apart, misunderstood and sometimes feared. Sometimes they can wield enormous power, as in the case of Frederick Lindemann. Lindemann (later Lord Cherwell) was Churchill’s key scientific adviser. Nicknamed “The Prof”, Churchill invariably deferred to him on most scientific matters and it is interesting to note that it was Lindemann’s agreement with the Air Ministry’s skeptical assessment about UFOs that almost certainly persuaded Churchill to take no further action or interest in the subject, following his famous July 1952 enquiry about UFOs. But people like Lindemann are the exception. From Peter Wright to Dr David Kelly, government scientists sit within the Establishment, but are somehow not quite a part of it. The relevance of this is that official UFO projects such as Blue Book, the MOD’s UFO project and others have never really made as much use of scientists as might have been the case. Even Hynek was somehow set apart from the rest of the United States Air Force team, as opposed to being an integral part of the project. The British Position The British Government’s UFO project had no full-time scientific adviser. Arrangements have varied over the years, but during my tour of duty and at most other times, staff undertaking UFO investigations have been able to call on scientific expertise on an ad hoc basis. This has generally involved specialists in the Defence Intelligence Staff, in particular those working in scientific and technical intelligence. Clearly this is an area about which I can still say little, despite the MOD having released some documents detailing the liaison. Of course, I would have like to have had a full-time scientific consultant, embedded in the project. An astronomer or an astrophysicist perhaps, or maybe an aeronautical engineer. A psychologist would also have been useful. But I can think of few managers who wouldn’t want more resources and, as ever, there are numerous competing requirements. So the scientific advice I received was delivered on an “as required” basis. Whether I wanted a radar tape interpreted or a photograph analyzed, there was always somebody who I could call on for assistance. Project Condign I should make mention of Project Condign, not least because it has its roots in discussions that I had with scientific and technical intelligence staff in 1993, years before the study was actually undertaken. Famously, we convinced people to endorse such a study by dropping the loaded term UFO and replacing it with UAP (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena). But I’d left the UFO project by the time Project Condign was undertaken and whereas I worked hand-in-glove with the Defence Intelligence Staff, my successors, for a number of reasons, did not enjoy such a close working relationship, and remained at best not involved and at worst entirely unsighted on the work. The final report was a disappointment. Though the single author worked tremendously hard, he had been hampered by the secrecy of the study. Consequently, none of the consultation and peer review that one would expect in a proper scientific study was undertaken. This was, essentially, one man reading some of the MOD’s old files and scouring the literature for papers on atmospheric phenomena. The irony was that by straying into such areas the author ended up trying to explain one mystery for which there is no scientific consensus (UFOs) with others (exotic atmospheric plasmas, earthlights and the effect on the brain of electromagnetic fields). That’s bad science. Science versus Ufology Outside official government projects, the position has always been more difficult. Scientists have often been fierce critics of ufology. From Donald Menzel to Sir Patrick Moore, many scientists have been ufology’s harshest critics. The irony here is that good ufology should be indistinguishable from any other scientific programme. Good examples of such “scientific ufology” include the Hessdalen Project in Norway, or BUFORA’s Anamnesis Project. Sadly, much ufology is not scientific, either because investigators (skeptics and believers alike) are conclusion-led, or because they lack the appropriate expertise and resources, or both. This is a shame. I have met both scientists and ufologists, and discussed ufology at science festivals and the Science Museum. With their passion for knowledge, the two “sides” have more in common than they might first realize. Two Studies and Two Results Let’s not get drawn into absolutes. Science is a broad church and even on a very narrow subject one finds different theories, with different conclusions often being drawn from the same data - not unlike ufology! Often, there is no “scientific consensus”. A good example of this is the debate surrounding the nature of the hypnotic state and the validity of regression hypnosis in recovering memories. What can better illustrate this lack of consensus than comparing the Condon Report with The Sturrock Report? The Condon Report was the result of a study undertaken by scientists at the University of Colorado and its skeptical conclusions led to the USAF’s Project Blue Book being formally terminated. The Sturrock Report was compiled by astrophysicist Peter A. Sturrock and others and was based on the work of a panel of scientists who reviewed data in some of the most intriguing UFO cases. Billed as the first major scientific inquiry into UFOs since the Condon Report, Sturrock and his colleagues effectively overturned the Condon Report conclusions. Science and Abductions None of this is to say that we should blame scientists for not taking an interest in ufology. As I said earlier, some scientists have become involved in ufology and were great friends to the subject. Dr J. Allen Hynek is one example, changing his views and becoming involved in civilian ufology after Project Blue Book was closed down. Dr John E. Mack is another more recent example. Mack was Professor of Psychiatry at the prestigious Harvard Medical School and was challenged by Budd Hopkins to look at the alien abduction phenomenon. He took up the challenge and became a great champion of the subject. Although often criticized by ufologists and labeled as debunkers, scientists such as Susan Blackmore, Chris French, Susan Clancy and Richard McNally have at least got involved. Ufology cannot have it both ways and yet many ufologists deride scientists for not paying the subject attention, then criticize those that do, because they disagree with their conclusions. Despite their obvious skepticism that any of the abductees have been taken on board an extraterrestrial spacecraft, ufologists might find some common ground with the likes of Clancy and McNally if they looked hard enough. As a result of experiments, both Clancy and McNally have said there is no evidence of any psychopathology in the abductees - they’re not mad. Furthermore, because the abductees exhibit physical symptoms (e.g. increased perspiration and heart rate) when recalling their experiences, when a control group asked to retell a fictitious but traumatic account display none, Clancy and McNally think it unlikely the abductees are lying. Ufologists and the abductees themselves should welcome this and make more of it. Ufology versus SETI Nothing typifies the current state of affairs better than the relationship between ufology and SETI. Here are two groups of people who should regard themselves in an overlapping field. SETI practitioners use radio telescopes to listen for transmissions from other civilizations, while many ufologists believe extraterrestrials have already visited Earth. Generally speaking, each regards the other’s activities as silly and pointless. SETI practitioners close their minds to the faster-than-light travel (or other exotic travel such as use of wormholes) that is required for viable interstellar travel. Ufologists question whether extraterrestrial civilizations would generate detectable radio signals at all (Writer and philosopher Terence McKenna once said “To search expectantly for a radio signal from an extraterrestrial source is probably as culture bound a presumption as to search the galaxy for a good Italian restaurant”). Logically, SETI supporters and ufologists should be saying “Look, I don’t know much about your discipline, but it seems to me that we’re both interested in the same thing, though we’re coming at it from opposite ends of the spectrum and trying two very different approaches. I guess we’re covering all the bases”. But they don’t. They bicker and fight and disparage each other, making both sides look foolish and wasting valuable time that could better be spent on research and investigation. Some of the biggest names in both fields are guilty here, though I’m pleased to say that when I met Frank Drake (generally regarded as “the father of SETI”) he seemed genuinely interested and open-minded about ufology. My own view is that SETI might beat ufology to the finishing line. Proof is difficult in ufology and short of the archetypal landing on the White House Lawn, it will be difficult to convince society as a whole that extraterrestrials exist. But a signal from space? It couldn’t be faked and it couldn’t be denied. Of course, picking up a signal doesn’t mean any extraterrestrials have ever actually visited the Earth, but it would prove the existence of other civilizations - a good start for any pro-ETH ufologist. Conclusion Investigations undertaken by government UFO projects have generally been carried out in a scientific manner, though even they have struggled to obtain the full-time scientific support that would have been more desirable. Ufologists and scientists are generally wary of each other, though some bridges have been built. More can and should be done. Good ufology (official or private) should be science-based, but it often isn’t. Ufology is a quest for knowledge and if done properly should involve the application of a rigorous investigative methodology. It seems to me that this definition isn’t that far from the definition of science itself.

Billy Meier's faked UFO

How to be an authority in extraterrestrial civilizations and alien contact.

Let me give you some advice:

FIRST: Anything people see in the sky, can be some extraterrestrial spacecraft. Now (this is important,) if someone says that the flying object is just a balloon or a airplane, or Venus, the individual in question is a CIA operative, a cabal, a psyop, a debunker, well, you name it, but be aggressive, hostile. Attack him/her. Remember that there are no persons who think differently, but only enemies.
Keep in mind that you are fighting against a monstrous conspiracy, a shadow government and the whole scientific establishment. They spend billions of dollars denying what you say about the ET in the Internet.
However, the “star craft" (UFO) can be some obvious hoax.
In that case, it's better to remain silent or to go on talking about the Cosmic Brothers agenda, and keeping your believers hopeful and expectant.

Find some other sighting and write as if the Alien Landing or the Disclosure will happen in hours or days.

Remember this: you know more than "them”: (NASA, Scientific establishment, governments, UN, etc. )
If someone asks how you learned so many things about the Cosmic Visitors, just smile, or tell him about your Close Encounter, or your telepathic communications with the ETs, or your visits to Mars. If the curious asks for evidences, attack him or her. Put in practice your ad hominem fallacy (See above.)

Second: Invent pseudo-events with big names like Galactic Exopolitical Multiversal Congress.Create the Galactic Diplomacy University. Remember that in the Internet things always look  bigger.
Tell your fans that some anonymous source, perhaps General Z,  informed you abut the Extraterrestrial Quarantine imposed by one hundred different ET races to our planet. Ask for a disclosure.

Frequently use the word "quantum". It always sounds fine. Do some Google on stars and put funny names to your Aliens, something like Betelgeusians, Rigelians, Aldebarians or Bereniceans. Forget about distances. Do not care if the planet of your aliens is a billion years light  from our poor little Earth. Nobody will ask you how they came here.  (If someone does, just smile and move your head.)

Of course, read what other Cosmic Preachers are doing. Learn from Raelians, Exopoliticians, Councilors of Earth, channelers and contactees.
They are of course saying and writing the same things that you, but tell your followers that all the others are just disinformers and psyops, or are puppets controlled by the Military-Industrial-Extraterrestrial Complex.

THIRD: Always improvise and make predictions. Remember that the next year nobody will remember what you said before. Probably your followers will be doing something else: opening their chakras through guided meditation, or waiting for the second coming of Jesus.

The meaningless words (flatus vocis.)

Why Nature should be a Reflection of our Soul Essence? What is the soul? Where it is? Where was the first primate with soul? In what way Nature is a refletion of the nonexistent sould, (deus ex machina?)
These are words that tell us absolutely nothing.
Remember the old proverb.
Men/and women are slaves of their Words and masters of their Silence.

UFO=ET fantasists' contradictions

We mentioned before the inevitable contradictions of the UFO =ET fantasists. Let us see these contradictions at work. Read please what follows: (bold & italics are mine.)

HOW UFO SECRECY HAS DAMAGED AMERICAN SOCIETY AND POLITICS, with Richard Dolan. Whatever UFOs actually are (whether aliens, or classified military technology, or something else), most people realize that secrecy surrounds the topic. Richard Dolan, author of UFOs and the National Security State, argues that this secrecy has been fatal to America’s concept of “government of the people, by the people, and for the people.” After discussing how UFO secrecy has been one of the major unacknowledged problems of our time, he questions whether or not the U.S. political system could survive a truly open disclosure of UFOs. Dolan has published numerous articles on anomalous phenomena, science, and the intelligence community for UFO Magazine. In 2003, he helped to found Phenomena, a magazine dedicated to leading edge issues pertaining to science and society, and for which he continues to serve as Senior Editor and regular contributor. Dolan has been appeared many times on television documentaries and radio programs on the theme of UFOs and government disclosure. He has been a featured speaker at numerous conferences. Richard Dolan also continues to research and write volume two of UFOs and the National Security State. For more information visit www.KeyholePublishing.com

First it is not true that UFO secrecy has damaged American society. There are indeed many things that damage our society, but UFO are not one of these. First, because there is no such thing as a UFO cover-up.
95 % of UFO sightings are natural phenomena or human artifacts. The 5 % unidentified UFOs are not a problem; neither are any kind of threat to national security.
In a previous post I wrote, we pointed that the UFO subculture needs to making believe that the whole society cares about UFO. Untrue.
More important is that the same fantasists that talk about extraterrestrials as a fact, recognize that “(whether aliens, or classified military technology, or something else), most people realize that secrecy surrounds the topic. Richard Dolan, author of UFOs and the National Security State, argues that this secrecy has been fatal to America’s concept of “government of the people, by the people, and for the people.”)
THIS IS A RECOGNITION THAT THE UFO CRANKS DO NOT KNOW WHAT UFOS ARE. The logical consequence is that they demand the disclosure of something that they don't know if exist.
Why all these contradictions? Just because they cannot show a single reliable evidence about the existence of extraterrestrial civilizations, here or in any other part of the Universe.
Their rhetoric is the well known blend of pseudo-science, unreliable and/or anonymous sources, New Age talk and science-fiction.

Facebook exchange with Richard Dolan

  • Richard Dolan how is my reasonable question an ad hominem attack? That's rather odd of you.
  • Tomas Scolarici Dear Richard, I must recognize that you are an expert in oddities. You sell these in form of books. However, the ad hominem attack is just the personal aggression INSTEAD of the argument. In mythical ufology, the same old unreliable nonsense is repeated again and again. The formula is that blend of pseudo-science, new age rhetoric, conspiracy theory, faked generalizations and "anonymous sources", etc. Truth is that after all, some do make a living with all this nonsense. By the way, let me promote rational, critical thinking here. You know that this is an old battle between supertition and ignorance against logic Reason, Intelligence, and critical thinking. Thanks for the opportunity///CARL SAGAN'S BALONEY DETECTION KIT
Based on the book The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan
The following are suggested as tools for testing arguments and detecting fallacious or fraudulent arguments:
o Wherever possible there must be independent confirmation of the facts
o Encourage substantive debate on the evidence by knowledgeable proponents of all points of view.
o Arguments from authority carry little weight (in science there are no "authorities").
o Spin more than one hypothesis - don't simply run with the first idea that caught your fancy.
o Try not to get overly attached to a hypothesis just because it's yours.
    o Quantify, wherever possible.
o If there is a chain of argument every link in the chain must work.
o "Occam's razor" - if there are two hypothesis that explain the data equally well choose the simpler.
o Ask whether the hypothesis can, at least in principle, be falsified (shown to be false by some unambiguous test). In other words, it is testable? Can others duplicate the experiment and get the same result?
    Additional issues are
o Conduct control experiments - especially "double blind" experiments where the person taking measurements is not aware of the test and control subjects.
o Check for confounding factors - separate the variables.
Common fallacies of logic and rhetoric
o Ad hominem - attacking the arguer and not the argument.
    o Argument from "authority".
o Argument from adverse consequences (putting pressure on the decision maker by pointing out dire consequences of an "unfavourable" decision).
o Appeal to ignorance (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence).
o Special pleading (typically referring to god's will).
o Begging the question (assuming an answer in the way the question is phrased).
o Observational selection (counting the hits and forgetting the misses).
o Statistics of small numbers (such as drawing conclusions from inadequate sample sizes).
o Misunderstanding the nature of statistics (President Eisenhower expressing astonishment and alarm on discovering that fully half of all Americans have below average intelligence!)
o Inconsistency (e.g. military expenditures based on worst case scenarios but scientific projections on environmental dangers thriftily ignored because they are not "proved").
o Non sequitur - "it does not follow" - the logic falls down.
o Post hoc, ergo propter hoc - "it happened after so it was caused by" - confusion of cause and effect.
o Meaningless question ("what happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?).
o Excluded middle - considering only the two extremes in a range of possibilities (making the "other side" look worse than it really is).
o Short-term v. long-term - a subset of excluded middle ("why pursue fundamental science when we have so huge a budget deficit?").
o Slippery slope - a subset of excluded middle - unwarranted extrapolation of the effects (give an inch and they will take a mile).
o Confusion of correlation and causation.
o Straw man - caricaturing (or stereotyping) a position to make it easier to attack..
    o Suppressed evidence or half-truths.
o Weasel words - for example, use of euphemisms for war such as "police action" to get around limitations on Presidential powers. "An important art of politicians is to find new names for institutions which under old names have become odious to the public"
Above all - read the book!
