About Signs and Extraterrestrials.

I would like to share with you some ideas about signs and ETs.
In Semiotics a sign is something that can be interpreted as having a meaning, which is something other than itself, and which is therefore able to communicate information to the one interpreting or decoding the sign. Signs can work through any of the senses, visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory or taste, and their meaning can be intentional such as a word uttered with a specific meaning, or unintentional such as a symptom being a sign of a particular medical condition.

A sign is composed by two elements: a signifier , for example a word like horse, and a signified, that is the idea of a horse which comes to your mind when you hear or read the word “horse”.
But the sign works when we have also a referent, which is the real horse in the objective word.

Now, if we are interested in the UFO subculture we hear a thousand times the word extraterrestrial. We have then the signifier, the word which points to the signified, that is the idea of Extraterrestrial Civilized Entities, but we must recognize that the signified is not at all clear in this case.  There are many ideas most of them contradictory and confuse about extraterrestrials. The ETs of Billy Maier are not the same ETs of Richard Dolan, or Steven Greer or Michael Salla.
Perhaps we can find something concrete about  the extraterrestrials looking for the referent.

In other words, we must find the real extraterrestrial in the concrete, objective world. However, we will confront a big problem here, because there is no such referent for the “extraterrestrial” sign.
There are extraterrestrial things, but not a civilized biological extraterrestrial entity that’s visiting our world and presumably in contact with some privileged humans.
From a semiotic perspective, the extraterrestrials do not exist. There is no referent in the real world.

What we have is words, talk, text, but never the presence of the ETs. Even worst, those who talk, write and fake little aliens in films do not have a shred of evidence about extraterrestrials’ existence.
All the “experts “in ETs are in fact selling fantasies as realities.
