What's going on here?

Dear friends.
This is a selection of the messages sent to me by Michael. As you can see there was nothing wrong or offensive in his thoughts. On the contrary, his writing shows intelligence, knowledge and a rational approach.
Consequently my question is this: Why his apology?
We must pay respect to some "pope infallibility"?
The "gurus" are always right?
What's going on here?
Because, if someone think that she/he is in control, he/she is wrong.

James, I struggle with the exact same thought. Why are these individuals saying the things they do? It does not match their past experience and credentials, credentials normally earned by solid thinking and writing. Groupthink affects everyone, and does not exclude those with high intellects...that may be the explanation, but groupthink usually applies to small groups that are tight-knit and closed. The exopolitics group is widespread and rather open. A conspiracy minded person would say that the global elite are using mind control to make these men appear foolish, because if they are allowed to continue, they would pose a threat. Of course, there is no proof of that at all....but what, then, is the explanation?
by the way, where does the entire mail list come from? Is it all prepare4contact folks, or rational ufology people, or both?

I think it is a form of groupthink, the well known psychological phenomenon whereby a group fails to consider opinions that stray from the group's assumptions and values. in this case, Barbara holds forth opinions that are congruent with those of exopolitics, so in the interest of supporting his mission, Mr. Webre fails to think critically, and accepts her pronouncements as fact. These are sincere people that are not aware of pitfalls that await the unwary. It may be that they have no interest or knowledge of the scientific method, and they are, in fact, promoting a new religion. If that is the case, then their comments make perfect sense.

A worse situation is the "Life on Mars" story, that I couldn't help comment on at my own blog, http://www.exopsychology.net

Here is my version of controlled paranoia:

1) Maybe they really have been contacted by aliens, either in person, or telepathically. The event was so overwhelming that they effectively lost their perspective, and became certain of themselves to the degree that they no longer feel the need to justify their statements or back up their claims. Maybe they did encounter high strangeness, went beyond time and twisted through a wormhole, with the side effect that their minds are slightly affected, loosened up, and for the better, from their perspective. It is us poor rational types who are trying to catch up, pathetically reliant on "evidence" and "common sense." They are living in a new reality, they have accomplished the paradigm shift, their neuronal impulses are infolding into the quantum hyperspace a tad more than ours, and they KNOW that aliens are here, negotiating behind the scenes, etc. They have higher priorities, and are not bothered with petty worldly concerns like reputation and money.

2) They are covert operatives, hired to create the exopolitics movement, then discredit it. They are fully conscious of what they are doing. Purpose: keep serious researchers occupied while they are being tracked and monitored for potential usefulness or threat, and then create more chaos in the field so further delay real disclosure. Your thought about the Third Reich may be appropriate, except in this case, it is the Fourth Reich.
