The charlatans want YOUR money.

Of course if an individual is insane, he is not responsible for his hallucinations. The question is this: how we know that Mister X is insane and Dr. Z is a charlatan?

Don’t worry because the answer is simple. The charlatan, the con-man, the liar, the pseudo scientist will always organizes his fantasies and nonsense as a business. She or he is market oriented.

Now, the charlatan wants to make a living with YOUR money, consequently he needs a very special kind of clients. He needs people who will buy his books and read them without exercising what we call critical thinking.

Now the question is this: you should know if you are one of those clients and why.
You must watch your own mental processes and see if you, for some reason, need to believe in certain things or entities without demanding any evidence. If this is so, probably your emotions control your thoughts.

However, to have faith is a religious phenomenon. When some exopolitician or “cosmic alchemist” tells you that several extraterrestrial civilizations are not only present in our planet, but in contact with the authorities, you have to analyze without any emotional attachment, the narrative of the individual who wants your money in exchange of obvious misinformation.

What are the sources of this “expert in extraterrestrial visitors”?
Are those sources anonymous or unreliable?
Has this “Dr.Z” any concrete, verifiable evidence to probe his statements?

If you cannot answer your questions with a clear YES, then someone is trying to make a fool of you. The con-man is selling you something that has no value. He wants money for his colored beads, hoping that you will believe that these are diamonds. He is selling you bad fiction as fact.

Remember to look for independent confirmation. Don't run with the first idea that caught your fancy.
See that behind the hyperbolic statements, the paranoia, and the unsubstantiated “revelation” there is nothing valuable.

Probably our Dr. Z is just repeating the lies of previous charlatans.
So, do not buy the book. Do not pay for “lectures”. Do not believe that your money will make you a galactic diplomat. (There is no such thing.)

Someone is trying to make a living with your money.

CARL SAGAN'S BALONEY DETECTION KIT
Based on the book The Demon Haunted World by Carl Sagan
The following are suggested as tools for testing arguments and detecting fallacious or fraudulent arguments:
    • Wherever possible there must be independent confirmation of the facts
    • Encourage substantive debate on the evidence by knowledgeable proponents of all points of view.
    • Arguments from authority carry little weight (in science there are no "authorities").
    • Spin more than one hypothesis - don't simply run with the first idea that caught your fancy.
    • Try not to get overly attached to a hypothesis just because it's yours.
    • Quantify, wherever possible.
    • If there is a chain of argument every link in the chain must work.
    • "Occam's razor" - if there are two hypothesis that explain the data equally well choose the simpler.
    • Ask whether the hypothesis can, at least in principle, be falsified (shown to be false by some unambiguous test). In other words, it is testable? Can others duplicate the experiment and get the same result?
Additional issues are
    • Conduct control experiments - especially "double blind" experiments where the person taking measurements is not aware of the test and control subjects.
    • Check for confounding factors - separate the variables.
Common fallacies of logic and rhetoric
    • Ad hominem - attacking the arguer and not the argument.
    • Argument from "authority".
    • Argument from adverse consequences (putting pressure on the decision maker by pointing out dire consequences of an "unfavourable" decision).
    • Appeal to ignorance (absence of evidence is not evidence of absence).
    • Special pleading (typically referring to god's will).
    • Begging the question (assuming an answer in the way the question is phrased).
    • Observational selection (counting the hits and forgetting the misses).
    • Statistics of small numbers (such as drawing conclusions from inadequate sample sizes).
    • Misunderstanding the nature of statistics (President Eisenhower expressing astonishment and alarm on discovering that fully half of all Americans have below average intelligence!)
    • Inconsistency (e.g. military expenditures based on worst case scenarios but scientific projections on environmental dangers thriftily ignored because they are not "proved").
    • Non sequitur - "it does not follow" - the logic falls down.
    • Post hoc, ergo propter hoc - "it happened after so it was caused by" - confusion of cause and effect.
    • Meaningless question ("what happens when an irresistible force meets an immovable object?).
    • Excluded middle - considering only the two extremes in a range of possibilities (making the "other side" look worse than it really is).
    • Short-term v. long-term - a subset of excluded middle ("why pursue fundamental science when we have so huge a budget deficit?").
    • Slippery slope - a subset of excluded middle - unwarranted extrapolation of the effects (give an inch and they will take a mile).
    • Confusion of correlation and causation.
    • Straw man - caricaturing (or stereotyping) a position to make it easier to attack..
    • Suppressed evidence or half-truths.
    • Weasel words - for example, use of euphemisms for war such as "police action" to get around limitations on Presidential powers. "An important art of politicians is to find new names for institutions which under old names have become odious to the public"
Above all - read the book!

Dangerous alternative UFO-abduction meme.

In our world, the possibilities of communication are practically unlimited, and because of this, the responsibility of the communicator is greater than ever before. We must think before talking or writing, about the possible consequences of our words and also of our silence.
A very old proverb says that “men are slaves of their words and masters of their silence.”

The extraterrestrial abductions meme was born from the Betty and Barney Hill story of their alleged abduction experience and several books contributed to give strength to this meme, without giving any kind of reliable evidence, as always happens with the hypothesis of the Extraterrestrial presence on our planet.

However, this meme grew and changed in some circles, and the abductions become a method employed by these aliens to progressively contact humanity.
Obviously the idea sold relatively well, and brought money for some psychotherapists and “experts“in ET activities.

Consider why this idea is effective and dangerous for border-line personalities. Since no evidence is demanded, anyone can say that he or she was selected for the ETs for some individual contact.
After all, anyone tell his own story or worst, his/her own hallucination. In fact this meme will produce in some self-delusive minds the fantasy.

For that reason the abduction as contact idea is negative and delusive and will bring more discredit of any serious ufological research.

Who is Who?: Laura Eisenhower.

In the competitive world of cosmic legislators, contactees, faked whistleblowers, experts in good and bad aliens, snake oil sellers, healers, time-travelers and militants against the secret weather wars and the chemtrails, Laura Eisenhower is the absolute winner.
Let me tell you a few things about this lady.

“Laura is a Cosmic Mythologist, Global Alchemist and is the great-granddaughter of Dwight David Eisenhower.
For more than 15 years, she has been providing clairvoyant readings and transformative healings
for individuals with the assistance of many divination tools and astrology.

With great passion and courage, she is helping to return Sacred Union (Shiva-Shakti),
divine wisdom, and the many faces of the Goddess that have been buried and forgotten for thousands of years.
Rising from the depths, she restores the tree of life, opens us up to our divine blueprint and brings to life the love story of creation.”

Of course, we want to know more about Laura, and what is clear, is that she is the great-granddaughter of President Dwight David Eisenhower, right? Now, if we look for a definition of alchemist, we need to know what alchemy is, and we find that the dictionary defines alchemy as a medieval chemical science and speculative philosophy aiming to achieve the transmutation of the base metals into gold, the discovery of a universal cure for disease, and the discovery of a means of indefinitely prolonging life.
So, if Laura is a Cosmic (?) Alchemist, this means that the girl can produce gold, can cure any disease and also can make people immortal..!

I am asking myself why some are wasting their time studying medicine and chemistry…
But this is not all, because apparently Laura is helping to return Sacred Union (Shiva-Shakti), an let me tell you this: Shiva is a Major deity of Hinduism, believed to have many manifestations. Like Vishnu, he is the subject of an elaborate and sometimes contradictory mythology. He is the destroyer and the restorer, the great ascetic and the symbol of sensuality, the benevolent herdsman of souls and the wrathful avenger. His female consort is known under various manifestations, including Parvati, Durga, and Kali. In Shaivism he is worshiped as the paramount lord.

Shakti is the dynamic energy of Shiva, and is personified as his female consort; broadly : cosmic energy as conceived in Hindu thought.
Laura is helping to return the sacred union of Shiva and Shakti and the importance of this reunion for the whole cosmos must be paramount, don’t’ you think so?
Besides, Laura Eisenhower is clairvoyant, gives Spiritual Counseling, practices chakra/aura reading, energy healing and soul retrieval, soul-centered astrology, tarot and other forms of divination.
Also Laura, known as Gaia, (the Earth.) and Sophia (wisdom), is a planetary healer..!

Let me remember you folks, the big Universal, Cosmic, Spiritual, Alchemical Law...the show must go on..!

Conspiracy theorists and some dangerous fallacies.

Basically, these two logical fallacies work together. The first is the so called Cum hoc ergo propter hoc in Latin. The second one is the Post hoc ergo propter hoc.

Cum hoc fallacy assumes that some events which occurred simultaneously are causally connected.
For the exo-fantasists and conspiracy fans, this is fundamental since it’s relatively easy to convince true believers that a meeting of economists in Paris and an accident in Stockholm are related and consequently show a giant international conspiracy in action.

In the post hoc fallacy, the first event is associated causally with the second as effect.
The mythologist simply finds different events that are unrelated, and fallaciously associates them.

Since so many things happen all the time, it’s possible for the professional or amateur charlatan to associate different events and convince some people that these show the magnitude of the imaginary conspiracy.

If you analyze the structure of the conspiracy theories, you will find a massive utilization of cum hoc ergo propter hoc and post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacies.

It’s easy to convince some individuals that behind an earthquake or a crisis there are the invisible hands of secret societies or extraterrestrials.

Unfortunately, the conspiracy theorists are irresponsibly affecting the psychological balance and behavior of people with paranoid personalities that will easily believe these fallacies.
